In order to strengthen exchanges on sustainable development issues already started in last November (Forum “Sustainable Development in Oman and the French expertise”), the French Embassy presents, under the patronage of the ministry of Heritage and Culture, the “Omani-French workshops on green architecture and eco-tourism” to be held in Crowne Plaza Hotel on the 15 and 16 May 2010. This event has been organised in cooperation with the Oman Society of Engineers.

Oman has succeeded in distinguishing itself from other countries in the region through policies regarding architecture control, eco-tourism and landscape protection, allowing the development of an environment-friendly tourism. This can be particularly interesting to enhance the cooperation with French architectural firms and agencies which have developed innovative concepts adapted to local conditions of each country.

Ten French leading architecture agencies will participate. The workshops will focus on two major issues, Green Architecture and Eco-Tourism, and target French and Omani architects, researchers, institutional representatives and officials in charge of sustainable development affairs in the fields of architecture, urban planning or tourism.

Mr Jean Gautier, director of Architecture at the French ministry of Culture and Communication will participate and give a presentation on the urban planning project “Grand Paris” decided by President Nicolas Sarkozy. A presentation of Muscat Municipality projects will also introduce the workshops.

The event is sponsored by OMRAN, BRM, Pavillon de l’Arsenal, Muriya and Air France – KLM.
